Building our New Premises

On 18th February 2008, I became the proud owner of a dilapidated wooden building known as "The Legion Hut".

I had grand designs for this building and you will see the progress in the photos below.

On 24th November 2008 work started on the site. The builder John Armstrong from Bentham secured the site by putting fencing all the way around it.

On a sunny Tuesday morning, 25th November, the demolition started and the old building was down by the Wednesday evening.

The completed building

On 15th June 2009 the building was opened with the ribbon being cut by Mary Bowker, Marie's oldest patient. The dedication of the building was done by Pauline Turner, founder of International School of Awareness.

By the end of the week the site was levelled and marked out ready for work to begin on the foundations for the new building.

I am most grateful to the builder John L Armstrong and his team for working so hard to produce this wonderful building in six short months.

The joinery was done by Chris Brownsord of Bentham, the electrics by Neil Smith of Clitheroe, the plumbing by Martin Cowgill of Bentham, the plastering by M J Walker Plastering Ltd, the digging out by Lawsons Hazelwood Ltd, the floor screed by T B Construction Ltd  from Skipton, the roofing contractor was Andrew Broster from Hest Bank and the scaffolding was supplied by On Target Scaffolding.

Barbara Rothwell and Arthur of Bentham did the internal and external decorating.

Floor coverings were supplied by Malcolm Preece of Hash Browns in Bentham.

The signs have been made By vision Signs of Clapham.

The Construction Design and Management Coordinator was Dave Collins of Newmac Ltd of Killington.

The beautiful building design was done by Stephen Craven Building Design of Giggleswick.

I wanted to produce the most environmentally friendly building practically possible.

The blocks for the wall are Enviroblocks, the stone was reclaimed from a mill in Bradford and the slates are reclaimed Burlington from Scotland and had only been in use for 20 years. The insulation is made from sheep's wool.

An airsource heatpump supplied by Ecohometec of Doncaster supplies the underfloor heating both upstairs and downstairs and a heat recovery ventilation system provided by Villavent of Witney ensures a minimal loss of heat from the building by recovering heat from expelled air and sending filtered, warmed air back into the building. The building has gained a B rating energy performance certificate.

My grateful thanks also to my family and friends who have supported and believed in my vision of a holistic centre of excellence for health and wellbeing and also to the HSBC bank for funding the project.
